So I installed tircd on a development VM I created last night. Tip: Install the modules from CPAN, don’t use the Ubuntu 8.04 perl packages.
Pretty nice. I use IRC at work and for keeping in touch with ex-coworkers so I’ve always got xchat open in a window. Now I can follow my tweeters that much easier.
Snow Leopard Without Leopard? Yes You Can!

This is good news. I’ve been running Tiger on this Macbook since I bought it. When Leopard came out, Time Machine scared me a little. Now that the bugs have been worked out, I’m ready to upgrade. I want to get a larger harddrive, install Snow Leopard, then get VMware Fusion to run my portable Windows and Linux instances. I think with this I’ll even retire my work windows laptop to a VM and run that from the lab via rdesktop.
New Command Center Pics coming soon.
From the GPPF:
Before it became a bad word, boondoggle was an innocent, humble craft. But that all changed on April 3, 1935: At a hearing in New York City on how New Deal relief money was being spent, a Brooklyn crafts teacher reluctantly testified that he was paid to show the jobless how to make “boon doggles,” a braided ring used to hold a neckerchief, particularly in scouting. The outcry was swift and a new, more sinister meaning was born – the word came to signify government make-work, later referring to wasteful government projects in general. Source: Cato Institute
In case anyone was wondering, you can run the VI client inside Parallels Desktop on a Mac. As I plan to switch to VMware Fusion if I get Snow Leopard for my birthday I hope it works in that too. I’d really like to virtualize my Windows box.
Ew, assuming I can get the USB pass through to work in ESXi. I need to be able to use the scanner in my VM.
WP Ajax Edit Comments | The Reader Appreciation Project.
This might work if we disabled AJAX commenting. Need to setup a test server to check it out.

So I think I’ve finally found need to actually write my own plugin. Basically it is a “Moderate” button that will appear to certain WP users next to each comment. When clicked it will place the comment into a special moderated queue which will be visible to moderators, but not to the general public.
I’ll probably use Role Manger to create a moderator user class and assign them the capabilities of Subscriber, and an additional capability for moderation.
I think setting the background of a moderated comment to a light grey will be an easy way to distinguish between a moderated comment and a publicly visible one.
Now the only trick is to find the time to do it.
